Staffing

The Process

AHP aims to staff public healthcare facilities in South Africa with a solid complement of healthcare workers. We operate within the regulations set by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Department of Health’s Foreign Workforce Management Programme.

AHP practises ethical recruitment and therefore does not recruit healthcare workers from developing countries that have similar healthcare worker shortages.

The application process for foreign-qualified doctors to work in South Africa is similar to the process in many other countries around the world. The application process can take up to nine months as it includes various steps to ensure quality of care standards are maintained in South Africa’s public healthcare system. A candidate’s country of origin, citizenship and where a medical degree was obtained are taken into consideration.

AHP acts as a facilitator during the application process. To ensure the process runs as smoothly as possible, please only liaise with your Recruitment Officer at AHP. Do not contact the HPCSA or your healthcare facility directly.

It is also important not to travel to South Africa before you are registered with the HPCSA.
