Wits University introduces a Division of Social and Behaviour Change Communication

In what is believed to be an African "first", the Wits School of Public Health and the Soul City Institute have launched a division of "Social and Behaviour Change Communication", in response to what John Molefe (Soul City Institute) describes as "a growing need for quality health communication interventions to ensure social and behaviour change in Southern Africa". According to Nicola Christofides (Wits Public Health) explains the motivation: "Sub-Saharan Africa has many preventable illnesses...social and behaviour change communication has a critical role to play in addressing the social and behavioural aspects of health..." 2010 RuDASA conference a success

The 2010 conference for the Rural Doctors Association of South Africa took place over the last weekend in August. In a bid to extend awareness of rural issues to the southern African region, it was held in Swaziland this year, and was well attended by representatives of the Swazi Health Ministry. Government announces plans for a major hospital revamp

Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has announced that government will be spending more than R8 billion to build and renovate five major hospitals around the country before 2014. This is being done in preparation for the launch of the National Health Insurance plan (NHI). Read full story
