One of our newly placed doctors is already finding himself in a challenging situation. The South African national municipal workers strike has affected health facilities nationwide, and even while things are far worse in the cities, the rural hospitals have not been unaffected.
According to the doctor in question, the strike affected the rural hospital where he is situated quite severely. Their nursing staff is severely reduced and the staff that remain have to take on many additional tasks in order to make up the difference. The quality of care has been severely compromised.
