A Dutch Doctor Working in the Transkei (Blog) - Annelieke Collee

Transkei Cow

Dr Annelieke Collee, from Rotterdam, lived and worked in South Africa since July 2009 returning home in May 2011. During her time in South Africa, she kept a blog about her travels and working life at Isilimela Hospital in the Transkei, along the south coast (close to the small town of Port St Johns).

Read this lovely blog (written in Dutch) and gain insight into what foreign doctors experience while working in South Africa: http://www.anneliekecollee.waarbenjij.nu/

Translation: “The hospital met all my expectations, at least if you account that it is a small rural hospital with a lack of everything, including a 60% vacancy rate (like you may encounter in the rest of Africa)."
