"Bringing health workers into public service on the African continent"
We are a social profit organisation with a dedicated team of people working with a network of
government bodies, private sector institutions and civil society organisations.
Over the past few decades, the southern African healthcare system has suffered from chronic brain drain. In South Africa, as much as 35% of all health professional posts are presently vacant. While our country continues to train doctors, nurses, specialists and other professionals, the prevailing trend has been a mass emigration to developed countries, coupled with a preference for the private sector among those who remain.
Many public healthcare facilities are therefore overcrowded. Patients are underserved, and the few staff members are so overworked that a vicious circle is created where working in the public healthcare system is not seen as a viable option.
The only way to break this cycle is through intelligent staffing solutions – filling the existing gaps, but also addressing the issues that lead people to turn away from a career in public service. Africa Health Placements is able to help with both of these issues.
