Cofimvaba Hospital

Overview

Cofimvaba hospital is 80km from Queenstown, lies off R61 main road and is 2km from Cofimvaba town. It is rural hospital serving an impoverished community with high rate of unemployment. This hospital serves a population of 185 742, which is the largest in the Chris Hani district. Some members of staff commute daily between Queenstown and Cofimvaba. Health professionals receive an incentive of rural allowance.

Initially the Dutch Reformed church had intended to build a hospital, but because of water problems, the idea was abandoned and a health centre built that was controlled by Glen Grey hospital. Due to the increase in the population and the enlightenment of the people, Cofimvaba hospital was built in 1986.
