Humansdorp Hospital
Overview
Humansdorp Hospital is a co-location (co-location referring to it being partly public and partly private in different parts of the hospital) 80 bed district facility located in the small town of Humansdorp in the Cacadau District of the Eastern Cape. This hospital has been newly refurbhised. Previously the ageing 60-bed hospital was operating at more than 90% occupancy, and in urgent need of rehabilitation, upgrading and expansion - causing them to look at public-private partnerships as a potential solution.
The resultant partnership signed with Metro-Star Hospital in mid-2003, now boasts an 80-bed, revitalised, refurbished andupgraded hospital with a long-term maintenance and nonclinical services agreement in operation. Various medical facilities and services are shared between public and private providers, the specialist referral base has been enlarged, and there is an element of revenue sharing included in the arrangement.
